A transmitter at the rear of the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing Co. 787 that caught fire last week in London is the subject of the fire's investigation.
The New York Times reports the emergency locator transmitter, made by Honeywell Aerospace, is the focus of the investigation.
If it's determined that the Honeywell device indeed sparked the blaze, that would be a relief to Boeing (NYSE: BA), which would be able to trace the problem to a specific item on the plane, rather than something in the plane's unique electrical and battery systems.
British aviation investigators said Saturday that evidence from Friday's fire at Heathrow Airport suggests the fire did not result from the aircraft's lithium-ion batteries.
