U.S. Mint of the National Treasury will mint gold coins in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the U.S. Baseball Hall of Fame, according to reports by several international news sites on Friday, October 28, 2011.

The U.S Mint will be producing no more than 50,000 $5 gold coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins and 750,000 half dollar coins over a period of one year starting January 1, 2015. The production was given permission by the U.S. Secretary of National Treasury.

A bill to mint the coins will need the approval of the U.S. Senate and before it can be signed by U.S. President Barack Obama. Reports say that the bill will gain quick approval since baseball is a very popular game in the U.S..

The U.S. baseball hall of fame building opened in 1939 and became a national landmark. About 15 million people reportedly visited the building which exhibits baseball items of the greatest players of the game that include Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantel, Roger Maris and many others.
