A Detailed Comparison Of Cable TV and Satellite TV services ...

Making a choice between Cable and Satellite TV can be one of the most difficult tasks, particularly when you don?t have a clear idea of how both the technologies work. You may look to order the cable TV or satellite TV services if you find yourself in any of the following two of scenarios.

?If you are not happy with the services of your cable or satellite TV provider then you may feel like going for the other service.
?Another reason why most people go for one of the two providers is when they think of giving new connection to their TV.

Whichever may be the reason for you to look for either of the two services, it is always good to know a few things of how the cable TV and satellite TV work. Note that a cable TV service involves coaxial cable wires/ fiber optic technology. In co0mparison, the satellite TV service is supported by satellite dish antenna and set top box. The above-said point is just the first step in getting to know the difference in both services.

Cable TV
Also called CATV (Community Antenna Television), cable TV is one in which the radio frequency waves (or signals) are transmitted to the TV by coaxial cable wires or fiber optic cable. Since making its debut in the US in the late 1940?s, cable TV became widely popular within a short period of time. At one point, everyone who was looking for a TV service banked heavily on the cable TV connection (lack of competition at that time was also a reason for that). Today, almost half of the American population is happy with their cable TV services; thanks to the reliable services from popular providers like Charter Cable- which itself has millions of satisfied subscribers to be proud of.

Satellite TV
Satellite TV has become a strong competitor for cable TV of late. As the term itself implies, satellite TV service is provided via satellites. The dish antenna and the set top box provided by the service providers receive the signals from the satellite. That?s how we get the crystal clear channels at our homes. There are reputed service providers in the US that specialize on providing the satellite TV service. Recent studies reveal that satellite TV may replace cable TV as the most-preferred service in the US.

Comparison between Cable TV and Satellite TV
As far as the equipment required for both service is concerned, Cable TV requires only a single receiver whereas Satellite TV needs two equipments- satellite dish and set top box. Of course, all the installation process will be taken care by your service provider; thankfully you don?t have to break your head for it! However, if you have multiple TV sets at home then you may need more than a single set up. This might also cost you a bit more than what you pay for a single TV set.

Coming to the reception of signals, note that cable TV transmits both analog and digital signals while satellite TV is fully based on digital technology which lets you watch all the TV programs on Digital TV. This might result in better picture clarity- one area where satellite scores well over cable TV. However, bad weather may be a huge hindrance to the reception of the signals in satellite TV services. That?s one reason why people in area where the weather condition is unstable go for cable TV services.

When it comes to the number of channels, both cable TV and Satellite TV offer loads of channels- almost similar in number. However, if you are looking for more HD channels then a satellite TV service should be the one you are looking for. Since this is one of the drawbacks of cable TV, the service providers are fast catching up.
