Durant alum named soccer coach at Steinbrenner

Steinbrenner principal Brenda Grasso said the Warriors have hired Durant High School graduate Angela Gillisse to take over the girls soccer program.

Gillisse replaces Robert Woodard, who coached the Warriors for one season as Steinbrenner went 16-4-2 and won its third-straight district title. The program won the 4A state title in 2011, only the second year of the schools existence.

Gillisse was a standout defender at the University of Tampa graduating with a sports management degree in 2002. She was previously the athletic director at St. Mary's Episcopal Day School in Tampa, which has athletic programs at the middle school level.

Gillisse said although she has coached for a number of years, she was looking for an opportunity to get into coaching in the high school ranks.

"I've been coaching for as long as I can remember, but I've been looking to transition to the high school level," Gillesse said. "This opportunity with the reputation that the Steinbrenner program, is so exciting and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on the team's successes."

Gillisse said she will also teach physical education and health at the school.
