The city of Benghazi was a stronghold for rebel soldiers in Libya, to whom U.S. Libya Ambassador Christopher Stevens served as a liason. With help from American and European warplanes, those rebeles toppled the regime of Mommar Gaddafy in August. Yesterday, Stevens, other diplomats, and several U.S. Marines were murdered here.
